    Disability and Carers event Derby

    Derbyshire Carers Association will be at the Do Want You Want event at Derby Arena on Wednesday 6th June from 10.30am to 3.30pm.

    The event is organised by disability direct.

    It’s Free to attend and is aimed at disabled children, adults, older people and Carers.

    Each event brings together between 100 and 150 organisations that provide services in the area.

    Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet Richard Blackwood (EastEnders) who will be attending from midday.

    Wanted Volunteers to help support Derbyshire Carers with all the work we do for Carers across the county.

    Why volunteer with us………

    Feel rewarded and challenged by giving something back. Meet like minded people with similar interests in your community. Use your skills and knowledge to help others, Learn something new, Keeping busy and active will boost your physical and mental wellbeing. You will be adding a great deal to your life but also to the lives of our carers and families bringing about lasting changes to their everyday lives.

    What you can do to help us…..opportunities…..

    Even if you can only spare an hour a week, every little will help us. Whether its help with our carers, and their cared for, befriending and chatting to provide much needed social interaction and emotional support, administration, providing practical help like driving, helping our support groups, participating and help organising our events and fundraising activities, young carers activity sessions. Raising awareness of what we do by helping with promotion even if it putting up a few posters locally or leaflets.
    Fundraising, we are actively looking for help with community fundraising which would make a huge difference to carers and their families, you can help by attending our fundraising events, individual fundraising if you ideas of an event you could holding in your community, charity box distribution and collection and co-ordination, helping with organising donations from local firms and businesses.

    Young Persons Creative Writing Competition

    Calling all young creative writers, if you are under 18 DCA want you to get creative writing!

    We would love to read your poems, stories, songs or letters telling us all about the things and people you care about.

    Be imaginative, creative, factual, argumentative, persuasive… any style goes!

    Email your entries to us at or post them to Derbyshire Young Carers, 3 Park Road, Ripley, DE5 3EF by Monday 2nd July 2018.

    Please include your name, age and contact details so we can get in touch to award prizes!

    Winners will be announced by Monday 16th July 2018 with prizes delivered to you soon afterwards.

    Feeling Low, Anxious, Isolated? Drop in group in Chesterfield

    You may be interested to know that DORA 2017 are running mental health related drop in coffee mornings at Monkey Park in Chesterfield.

    They run on the 1st Tuesday each month from 10.30am – 2.30pm and you will find a friendly and welcoming social environment.

    It will give you a chance to socialise, find out what is going on in the community, join in with activities including arts, crafts, games or just have a chat.

    In August we are having a fashion show to raise funds for the carers we support, come along have some fun.

    Designer high street store & top range ladies garments to be sold at a fraction of the normal on the evening.

    Safe Place Scheme Extends Service

    Derbyshire County Council has extended the safe place scheme so more people can feel secure when they go out and about.

    The Scheme will now cover anyone who feels they may need help.
