    Carers boat Trip

Last week some of the Carers we support went on a boat trip.

The Carers enjoyed their trip on the boat called Symphony which is designed and equipped to take groups of disabled and/or seriously ill people on day trips, including those in wheelchairs.

The carers and their cared for were collected by a mini bus arranged by DCA at Asda in Spondon and left at 8.45 – The travel was planned in advance and they arrived at Peter Le Merchant at 9.35 am where they were all greeted by the skipper and his team who were very friendly and attentive.

It ran from 10am to 4pm and accommodated 14 service users 8 carers and their cared for a relaxing day for everyone to get together have lunch in a friendly and fun environment.

The carers and their cared for expressed just how much they had enjoyed their day, the meals, and how relaxed they had all felt.

All of the Carers said they would really like to have more trips like this one as it helped to take their minds off their caring responsibilities.

  • Carers required for University Study

    Carers required for University Study

Carers wanted to take part in a study looking at the impact of caring.

Researchers from the Psychology Department at the University of Derby are working with Derbyshire Carers Association on several projects to better support carers to effectively manage the multiple demands of caring.
We would like to invite Carers to come and take part in the study looking at the impact of caring and how Carers build resilience.

Researchers from the University of Derby are happy to meet Carers in their own homes, at the University or at a DCA Centre in Derby, Ripley, New Mills or Chesterfield.

This will be a chat about how Carers build resilience and cope with their caring responsibilities.

All research helps DCA as well as other services in planning future support and protecting Carers services.

If you know of any Carers in Derbyshire that you think would like to take part then please pass on this information.

For more information or to volunteer to take part please call Angela Bradley at Derbyshire Carers Association on 01773 833833

This month, around 1,000 carers in Derbyshire, who are selected at random, will receive a copy of a postal questionnaire as part of the Personal Social Services Survey of Adult Carers in England (SACE).

The questionnaire is being sent out by Derbyshire County Council as part of a national survey; all local authorities with responsibility for providing adult social care services are required to run it every two years.

The survey asks questions about carers’ quality of life and the impact that services have on this. The questionnaire also collects information on the general health and wellbeing of carers.

The information gathered through the survey is very useful in helping Derbyshire County Council to understand how services might be improved. It also feeds into national official statistics used to compare performance with other local authorities.

If you receive a questionnaire and have any questions, or need help in completing it, please get in touch; contact details are provided in the letter that is sent out with the questionnaire.
