Derbyshire Trusted Befriending Network

About Derbyshire Trusted Befriending Network
Derbyshire Trusted Befriending Network is being developed by South Derbyshire CVS in partnership with Derbyshire County Council Adult Care. It aims to make sure that isolated and vulnerable adults in Derbyshire who could benefit from befriending support are able to do so.

It is part of Derbyshire County Council Adult Care’s wide ranging package of preventative services and support that helps people to keep as well as they can be and continue to live independently in their own homes for as long as they wish.

We define befriending as a service where one person (usually a volunteer) provides one-to-one support and encouragement to another person. The volunteer is someone other than a family member or friend, and the relationship is usually set up and supported by a group or organisation.

Quality Accreditation
Derbyshire Trusted Befriending Network has also developed a quality mark for Befriending Providers, so that people using local befriending services can be confident that they are safe and well-run.

There are three levels:

  • Level 1 – Full Membership is open to befriending services operating in Derbyshire who can demonstrate that they meet basic good practice requirements.
Once they have achieved Full Membership organisations can work towards:

  • Level 2 – Derbyshire Trusted Befriending Network Quality Standard which entitles them to use the Derbyshire Trusted Befriending Network Quality Mark; and/or:
  • Level 3 – Mentoring and Befriending Foundation Approved Provider Standard (APS) this is a nationally recognised quality standard, accredited by the Mentoring & Befriending Foundation.
