About us

Derbyshire Carers Association was founded by Gerry Fryer in 1988 following circumstances which found him in the caring position as described by himself here.

Once he realised how little support there was for Carers Gerry aimed for and met his aspiration for Carer support provision.

With the help of some other Carers, Derbyshire Carers Association gained it’s first paid employee in 1989, this has now grown to over 30 dedicated and passionate employees as well as a large number of volunteers.

Crooked Spire Celebration 2018

Crooked Spire Carers Celebration

Carers were treated to our fourth annual Carers Celebration event at the Crooked Spire in Chesterfield.

They were treated to performances from the Sharley Park School Choir and Highfields School Choir, with traditional Christmas songs and songs from the Greatest Showman.

The Spire was packed with over 300 people attending the event including The Duke of Devonshire, Toby Perkins MP, the Mayor of Chesterfield, the Mayor of Matlock and the Mayor of Ripley.

Derbyshire Carers CEO said “This annual event at this wonderful iconic church is an opportunity to celebrate and recognise all the hard work that the 150,000 Carers in Derbyshire do”
