About us

Derbyshire Carers Association was founded by Gerry Fryer in 1988 following circumstances which found him in the caring position as described by himself here.

Once he realised how little support there was for Carers Gerry aimed for and met his aspiration for Carer support provision.

With the help of some other Carers, Derbyshire Carers Association gained it’s first paid employee in 1989, this has now grown to over 30 dedicated and passionate employees as well as a large number of volunteers.

Tour of Derby Ipro Stadium

What a wonderful time we had on the Ipro Stadium tour during Carers Week. We were met at 10am by our tour guide Sidney who made us so welcome and his enthusiasm and passion for the club were apparent from the start. Sidney has worked for the Club for over 50 years and his knowledge was second to none. Nine Carers attended the tour and had a chance to chat to one another before we set off on our adventure. Our first stop was looking around all the wonderful old photos of the Club and previous players and this was absolutely fascinating. We went to the press room and had a chance to pretend we were being interviewed! We even went to the Club cells and had a photo behind bars! Just before we left we had a great team photo taken pitch side and we ended our tour with a complimentary coffee at Starbucks where we had a chance to reflect on the tour and relax.
Thank you so much to Derby County Football Club for making this possible. – Ann Hamp (Carers Connect Worker)
