Tina3.jpg (414 KB)Hello, my name is Tina Curran, and I am the Community Inclusion Lead for Derbyshire Carers Association.

Derbyshire Diverse Carers aims to raise awareness to improve the identification of people from Black, Asian and ethnic minority communities who are caring for a family member, loved one or friend who has a long term illness, disability, mental ill health and / or addiction. We also hope to improve the overall experience for Black, Asian and ethnic minority carers by developing a shared vision for community inclusion.

We recognise that people are all individuals and that no “one size fits all”.
This is even more relevant when supporting Black, Asian and ethnic minority groups, which are made up of many different communities.
This project will work to improve the wellbeing of these communities by:

  • Providing information, advice and guidance to carers from Black, Asian and ethnic minority communities to access health and social care services. By doing this we will reduce the risk of carer breakdown.
  • Providing carers a space; to listen to their experiences to enable change. This will support us to identify and address language, cultural and other barriers experienced by members of Black, Asian and ethnic minority communities when accessing services.
  • Working with service providers to find better and more effective ways of engaging and supporting carers from Black, Asian and ethnic minority communities.
  • Raising awareness through events, drop-in sessions and
providing information, advice and guidance across Derbyshire.

Are you caring for a loved one and would like to speak to Tina about your experiences? Or maybe you are a professional who would like to work with us? For more information about the project call Tina on: 07816 283548 or email: tina.curran@derbyshirecarers.co.uk

New survey launched for people from ethnic minority backgrounds caring for family members, loved ones and friends.

This survey is for Carers from ethnic minority backgrounds who care for a family member, loved one or friend, who has a long term illness, disability, mental ill health and/or addiction. Following on from the survey, we will collate all responses which will form a report to improve Carer identification and support across Derbyshire. If you are a Carer and require support, please call Derbyshire Carers Association on 01773 833833. If you would like help with completing this survey, please ask for Tina Curran.
