Carer Profile 12

I’d like to say how much I appreciate the help and support of Louise, especially when we had to attend a Vulnerable Adult meeting. I can’t say how much it means to have someone on your side, seeing things from a caring point of view.

It’s very easy to get so swept up in caring for someone that you forget about yourself, and think you can go on forever, but Louise is really good at bringing your attention back to yourself and your own needs, and reminding you not not to push yourself beyond your limits.

She also provided loads of practical help and information about caring. There seem to be so many people involved in care now, particularly older people caring for their spouses, and it is more important than ever that they have support for themselves. One thing I’ve learnt is that the best way to support someone who needs care is also to support the whole family unit around them, because it can be very isolating and draining for the family members otherwise. It’s great to know that Louise is available at the end of the phone and she has come round to the house several times when I was in a bit of a state. My Dad is far more settled now and things are fine, but I don’t know if we’d have made it so far, with him still living at home, without Louise’s help – so thank you very much!

Best wishes,
Sue
