Active Derbyshire awarded Derbyshire Young Carers with a grant to fund Young Carers to take part in physical activity to improve their wellbeing and decrease social isolation.

Alex’s support worker, Ann, applied for the funding so Alex could access his local gym in Killamarsh. Alex is having some health problems, thought to be related to stress. Being able to take time out at a gym or class would really help him with this. He was previously going to boxing, but the distance to travel and cost of transport was too much. Killamarsh Active Leisure centre is within walking distance for Alex.

Killamarsh Active have been great in setting this up for Alex. They have offered him concessionary membership and arranged for him to register with them but for the invoice to be sent directly to us.

Alex went to register this week and has sent a message to say:

‘I’m really grateful, I can’t thank you enough.  I’m hoping to go on Friday as I have to wait for the registration to be set up.  The facility looks really good and I’m really excited to start, all thanks to you.”

His mum, Bev, also got in touch to say:

Thank you and Young Carers so much for paying for this, Alex has been and signed up this lunchtime and got his membership card. He’s really pleased and I cannot thank you enough, I’m sure this will help Alex enormously."

Thanks go to Active Partners Trust for the funding and Killamarsh Active for the easy communication and set up.
