Last Thursday, we celebrated both Victor’s journey with DCA, as well as his 101st birthday. This private event took place with an afternoon tea at Chatsworth House alongside fellow board members, DCA employees and carers throughout Derbyshire.
Victor met his wife, Alicia, in 1957 and they had 63 wonderful years together. In 1972, Alicia became very ill and needed a lot of caring for. Victor became a Carer for his wife for a considerable number of years, and towards the end of his caring role, had to give up work.
Victor got in touch with Derbyshire Carers Association (DCA) and explained it was such a relief to speak to someone who listened to him and understood what he was going through.
After Alicia passed away on the 8th February 2019, Victor started giving support to other Carers and raising the profile of older Carers within my community.
In 2020, Victor become a Trustee of DCA and continues to dedicate his life to supporting Carers throughout Derbyshire.
Rebecca Cooper, CEO of Derbyshire Carers Association, said:
“Everyone at DCA would like to wish Victor a wonderful birthday. Victor is a remarkable man with a warm smile, huge heart and we cannot thank him enough for being a fantastic ambassador for DCA and for Carers in our community.”
Could you help make a difference to the lives of Carers?
We are looking for skilled and enthusiastic volunteers to join our Board as Trustees/Directors.
