Celebrating Visibility, Voice and Value at Derbyshire Carers Association

Learning Disability Week 2026 begins on Monday 15 June, and at Derbyshire Carers Association we’re proud to join people across the country in celebrating this important week. Every year, Learning Disability Week shines a light on what life is like for people with a learning disability - their experiences, their achievements, and the challenges they still face.

This year’s theme is “Do you see me?” It’s a powerful reminder that people with a learning disability deserve to be seen, heard and valued in every part of society.

Being valued means being respected. It means having your feelings, ideas and experiences listened to. It means being recognised for who you are - not overlooked, underestimated or spoken for.

What Learning Disability Week 2026 Is All About

This year, the campaign focuses on two big goals:

  • Celebrating the things that people with a learning disability do Their talents, contributions, creativity and individuality deserve to be recognised and celebrated.
  • Challenging the barriers people with a learning disability face A barrier is anything that stops someone from doing something - whether that’s inaccessible information, lack of support, negative attitudes, or systems that don’t include everyone. Learning Disability Week is a chance to call out those barriers and push for change.

Our Learning Disability Group: A Place to Be Seen and Heard

At Derbyshire Carers Association, we’re proud to run our Learning Disability Group, a friendly and supportive, online space where you can connect with Carers, share experiences and discover practical solutions together.

Standing With Carers and Families

We know that Carers play a vital role in supporting people with learning disabilities. Their dedication, advocacy and love make an enormous difference every day. Learning Disability Week is also a moment to recognise Carers, highlight their experiences, and remind them that support is available.

Let’s Tell Everyone About Learning Disability Week

Learning Disability Week 2026 is a chance for all of us to celebrate, challenge, and champion. It’s a moment to amplify voices, break down barriers, and build a more inclusive Derbyshire where everyone is valued.
