After being a full time Carer for my wife for many years I found myself with “time” when the time came I could no longer provide the full-time care my wife needed, and the difficult decision was made that she needed full time nursing home.

I had received support through Derbyshire Carers over the years in my caring capacity and decided I’d like to give some of that time back to them and use my experience gained on my caring journey to help others.

I now volunteer as a group facilitator.  I am finding this very rewarding knowing that I can help others who are on their own caring journey, as of course no two journeys are the same and an opportunity to meet other carers and other volunteers. We have a volunteer coffee morning once a month and look forward to joining in the activities during Volunteers Week.

It feels good to be able to use my knowledge and skills to help others and also part of a team!
