A gentle, child friendly way to build understand, kindness and inclusion.

I’ll Save You a Spot is a story created for young children to help them understand that some of their friends may have additional responsibilities at home.

Through the friendship of Amara and Poppy, the story gently explores what it can feel like when a child is balancing school life alongside caring responsibilities, and how small acts of kindness, friendship and understanding can make a meaningful difference.

Created as a supportive resource for schools, the book helps introduce conversations around Young Carers in a way that is positive, age-appropriate and easy for children to relate to. It encourages empathy, inclusion and belonging, while helping children understand that they are not alone.

The story can be used:

  • Within classroom learning and PSHE sessions
  • During assemblies and awareness activities
  • In nurture or small group sessions
  • To support conversations around wellbeing, friendship and inclusion
  • As part of wider Young Carers awareness work within school

Supporting PSHE and classroom resources are also available to help schools extend learning and discussion around the themes within the story.

The book supports the wider Right to Dream approach by helping children feel seen, supported, and able to succeed, regardless of the responsibilities they may carry outside of school.
