Small changes in school can make a big difference to a Young Carer’s life.

Small, thoughtful changes in school can have a lasting impact on a Young Carer’s educational experience.

Young Carers may take on responsibilities at home such as supporting with medication, managing household tasks, providing emotional care, or looking after siblings-often alongside their school day.

Without the right support, this can affect:

  • Attendance
  • Concentration
  • Emotional wellbeing
  • Participation in school life
  • Future aspirations

Research shows that Young Carers are more likely to experience lower educational outcomes and higher absence rates than their peers, particularly when their caring role is not identified or supported.

However, with the right understanding and support in place, Young Carers can thrive-both academically and personally.

When young Carers are seen, supported, and understood, they are better able to engage in school, build friendships, and look ahead with confidence.

Every Young Carer has the right to dream, and schools play a vital role in making that possible.
