Yesterday (19th January 2023) the much awaited 2021 Census data relating to the number of unpaid Carers throughout the UK and amount of time caring each week was released.
As expected, the amount of time providing substantial care each week has increased. As a service, we are supporting more Carers with complex caring needs that impact all aspects of their life including their health, wellbeing, employment, education and finances.
Throughout the UK:
In the East Midlands, those percentages are slightly higher with 2.9% of people providing more than 50 or more hours of care.
Within the UK there is a decrease in the proportion of people providing 19 or less hours of unpaid care a week decreased from 7.2% in 2011 to 4.4% in 2021. This figure is slightly higher for the East Midlands which is reported at 4.6%.
Over the coming months more detailed information will be released which will give an insight to more localised impacts and will help us allocate resource to where it is needed the most.
As a Service and Team, we continue to strive to offer the most caring, compassionate and responsive service for Young and Adult Carers and raise awareness of the impact of caregiving with health, education and community services to make caring ‘everyone’s business’.
