Befriending Week takes place 1-7 November this year and it's a chance to let befriendees know how important they are and thank volunteers and staff.
Telephone Befriending supports over 50 carers throughout Derbyshire each week who are lonely or isolated due to their caring role. To learn more and get inspired, read what it means to a Carer to receive a Telephone Befriending call...
"I was referred to the Derbyshire Carers Befriending Service after my review over 2 years ago. During my referral, the country went into lockdown. As a full time carer to my daughter, who’s extremely vulnerable, I became virtually housebound for over 18 months to keep her safe. I’m not sure how I would have survived without that weekly befriending call. Being a carer is very isolating, let alone living through a pandemic!
My befriending calls are so valuable it’s like chatting to a good friend. I can literally talk about anything and she’s so supportive and has at times signposted me to other agencies for help and advice.
Some weeks she is the only person I hear from or get to speak to. It’s a lifeline.
Without the Befriending Service and Derbyshire Carers, I’m not sure where I’d be."
