Derbyshire Young Carers Service continues to be delivered by Derbyshire Carers Association on behalf of Derbyshire County Council. We are now entering our sixth year of delivering the service and are working with over 250 young carers and their families every year.

We link in closely with schools, Early Help teams and other professionals to help you to identify young carers in the families you are working with. We are happy to come along to meetings and input about our service, referral pathways and issues that young carers face. We can also provide training to help your teams support young carers further. As we are commissioned by Derbyshire County Council, we are a trusted provider.

If referred to us, a young carer will receive a family assessment which will determine the support they will then receive. This can be (but is not exclusive to):

  • Signposting
  • Referral to other services e.g. Adult Social Care, Occupational Therapy, Mental Health
  • Support accessing community groups/ clubs
  • One to one support sessions
  • Family support sessions
  • Local after school groups (currently being rolled out)
  • Holiday activities with other young carers
  • Support with transition at age 18
  • Support accessing additional funding
  • Liaison with school, health professionals for extra support
  • Resources

As a Charity, we rely on voluntary income and donations to increase what we can offer to our young carers. If you’re interested in volunteering or fundraising for us, or organising a fundraising event, please get in touch.

To refer a young carer to us, please download our referral form at Make a Referral and email it to us at youngcarers@derbyshirecarers.co.uk

To discuss the referral beforehand please telephone 01773 833833 and ask to speak to one of the Young Carers team.
