Sing Viva! – Chesterfield and Derby Carers’ Choir

Sing Viva is Sinfonia Viva’s Carers’ Choir, supported by Arts Derbyshire. This choir has become a vital part of many carers’ lives, offering them much needed respite and the chance to meet new people in a supportive environment.

The Carers’ Choir in Chesterfield, run by Sinfonia Viva with the support of Arts Derbyshire and Derbyshire County Council, merged with the Derby group to form a digital choir during the pandemic.

They met regularly, keeping each other’s spirits up during the pandemic through song.

As restrictions eased, the choir moved to meeting every Tuesday evening online as well as rehearsing fortnightly in-person on Tuesday evenings, alternating between the Multi Faith Centre at Derby University and All Saints Church Centre in Wingerworth, Chesterfield.

The group currently consists of a range of individuals, some carers and some not, who all share a passion for singing. It is a very warm and encouraging environment, completely open to any range of musical experience.

The choir gives carers the opportunity to take some time out for themselves and join others to sing through some choral favourites, as well as songs from the shows and pop favourites.

Carers can make new friends and join like-minded people to enjoy the chance to try something new together, in a relaxed and supportive environment.

No previous choral experience is needed, carers can just take part and give it a go.

Sinfonia Viva have recently applied for funding from various sources to keep the choir going and will hear back from the first of these very soon.
