The Difference You Make

Is this commitment a choice or through love
I’m not sure which one, or all the above

My days are long and I try to stay strong
But I’m tired and weak, and giving into defeat
Friends have cried off, what more can I say
The days become longer, darker and grey

I want to stay here, tucked up safe in my bed
But I still can’t escape the thoughts in my head
Who can understand what I’m going through?
There’s no one left to turn too

They say it’s good to talk, a problem shared, a problem halved

But I say to myself, what good can this do
This was before I was introduced to you
You hear, give me time to speak
You make a difference every week

You feel like a friend, though we’ve never met
A phone, a cuppa and we’re all set
I’m pleased I gave befriending a go
You picked me up, when I was low
With a smile in your voice and a listening ear
We’ve shared lots of laughter and many a tear

This is what makes you a great volunteer!

The only thing that’s left to say
Is thank you to you and DCA
For making a difference, without any pay
And brightening up a carer’s day.
