Carers Stories
Sophie's Story

We support a 10 year old, Sophie, who looks after her mum. Her mum has Borderline Personality Disorder and extreme anxiety. The family are isolated, mum struggles to build friendships and relies heavily on Sophie for support.

Max's Story

Max is an 11 year old young carer who looks after his mum who has complex health needs and relies on her son for support.

Jenny's Story

Jenny has early onset dementia, heart problems and diabetes. She cares for her young adult son, John who has Autism and L/D.

Maggie's Story

Maggie is a sixty nine year old female carer who cares for her sixty nine year old husband and thirty three year old daughter.

Christopher's Story

Christopher is a 12 year old who cares for his mother who has battled with her mental health from her young teenage years.

Christine's Story

Christine Cares for her husband Kenneth, who is 65 and has physical disabilities due to an accident that has left him without the use of his right leg.

Vicky's Story

Vicky was referred to us by Chesterfield Royal Hospital with the aims of trying to give her the support she needs to cope during this crisis.

Xander's Story

Xander is a young Carer with an autistic brother and a younger sister.

Jean's Story

Jean cares for her husband who suffers with Alzheimer’s and has struggled due to lock-down.

Oscars Story

Oscar is a Young Carer aged 12 who lives with his mum and stepdad. He has siblings with autism and additional needs.

Eileen's Story

Eileen Cares for her sister Shirley who has depression, OCD, anorexia, lung and heart problems and currently has a Body Mass Index of 13.4.

Martha's Story

Martha (75 year old lady) cares for her elderly husband Tom who has dementia and a son with ADHD, Learning disability and asthma.

Megan's Story

Megan (fourty) cares for her seventy four year old mother Rose.

Anthea's Story

Anthea is a seventy four year old woman caring for her seventy five year old husband Vic who has Chronic Kidney disease, fibromyalgia, arthritis and poor mobility.

Anita's Story

Anita cares for her husband. He has a diagnosis of dementia and was diagnosed about four years ago and prior to lock down they went out somewhere every day.

Harriet's Story

Harriet cares for her 20 year old son (Jorden) who suffers with Autism

Ethel’s Story

COVID 19 assessment call to an eighty year old carer Ethel who cares for her husband John

Mary's Story

A referral was made to the befriending service as Mary struggles to access social activities and is from a lone parent family and has moved due to domestic violence.

Jody's Story

Jody helps care for her sister Yvette who suffers from sensory issues and hypermobility . Jody’s sister is partially deaf and has limited speech and communicates with signing.

Sophia’s Story

Sophia contacted DCA recently, very emotional and not knowing where to turn.

Chloe's Story

Chloe is 7 years old and helps her single mum care for her brothers.

Jack’s Story

Jack cares for his wife, Dianne who requires palliative care and has multiple health issues.

Jill’s Story

Jill is caring for her mum who has complex arthritis and care needs throughout the day and night time.

Natasha's Story

Natasha's Story

Maxine’s Story

Maxine is a carer for both of her parents. They have been diagnosed with vascular and Alzheimer’s dementia, and have additional health conditions that affect their mobility, their ability to maintain the home, and engagement with the community.

Joan’s Story

Joan cares for her son Anthony who lives with her and has a brain tumour, epilepsy, learning difficulties, depression and mental health issues, including paranoia and a “reduced mental capacity to understand”.

Clara’s Story

Clara was referred to Derbyshire Carers Association in December 2018 as she was feeling overwhelmed by her caring role.
