On 12 February, both Wards 3 and 5 at Florence Nightingale Community Hospital in Derby received their Carer Friendly Award from Derbyshire Carers Association - recognising a partnership that’s transforming support for people caring for a loved one, friend, or neighbour π€π.
Together, through the Hconnect Project, healthcare professionals on both wards have created stronger, earlier support for Carers who often don’t realise they are Carers at all π±β¨.
Staff attended Carer Awareness Training, helping those early, supportive conversations to take place - a vital step in enabling Carers to access the help they need π£οΈπ‘.
Carers can now receive support much earlier in their caring journey, and regular Carer Information & Advice Stands are now held within the hospital, ensuring every Carer can access help quickly and easily.
Ajinder Gidda (Matron for Wards 3 and 5) shared:
“The support from the Hconnect Team has been amazing, and I feel so proud that both Wards have been able to make positive changes to support unpaid Carers better. The impact of the Carer Awareness Training on staff confidence levels, the support in helping wards develop effective Carer Noticeboards, and the engagement work which happens every month has been an amazing benefit for Carers on both wards and beyond.” ππ
This is an incredible achievement! π
Well done to both wards for valuing and supporting the remarkable work that unpaid Carers do within our community β€οΈππ
