Call for Carers

Are you a Healthcare Professional looking to better support and involve Unpaid Carers in hospitals?

Join the Call for Carers: Learning & Development Programme — a FREE series of sessions designed to help NHS staff and volunteers improve how carers are identified, involved, and supported during the hospital discharge process. The programme includes carers awareness training, access to resources and best practice examples to better understand a carers journey.

Open to all healthcare professionals and volunteers working in NHS Derby & Derbyshire hospital

Bitesize training is a Derbyshire Healthcare initiative to offer a 1-hour bitesize training on psychology-related topics, and Carer Representatives have been involved in its creation and delivery.

The training is now available for staff, partners organisations, and members of the Carer Engagement Meeting.

Call for Carers: Learning and Development Programme

Money Matters Session

Wednesday 14th January 2026 - 11am till 12pm

This session is to help you understand more about welfare benefits, grants, and support with energy bills for people with disabilities and long-term health conditions and their Carers. 

You will learn how Carers can access support and know how to refer Carers for more help.

Contingency Planning for Adult Carers

Thursday 19th February 2026 - 12pm till 1pm

This training session will raise awareness of the vital importance of contingency planning for Carers. 

NHS Professionals will learn current provisions for emergency planning in Derby and Derbyshire, routes for information sharing with GP Practices (SNOMED Codes) and examples of good practice and digital based approaches

Support for Carers in Derby City and Derbyshire - find out what is available to support Carers locally

Monday 9th March 2026 - 2pm till 3pm

This session will allow you to find out the local support available for Carers, as a representative from Derbyshire All Age Carers Support Services (DAACSS) will talk about their service and what they can offer Carers in Derbyshire. A representative from Universal Services for Carers - Derby will also let you about what they offer Derby City Carers too.

Carents - Find out about some of the help, advice and support available for Carers of Elderly Parents

Tuesday 14th April 2026 - 1pm - 2pm

Caring for elderly parents can be overwhelming, but you don't have to do it alone. Carents are here with practical advice, emotional support, and trusted resources to you or a Carer you come into contact with to help navigate every stage of the caring journey.

Wednesday 13th May 2026 - 1.30pm till 2.30pm

This session is to help you understand what common legal themes Carers supported by Derbyshire Carers Association like to discuss with our legal clinic. This will range from Wills, Power of Attorney, Care home fees, and Carers Legal Rights.

Carers Awareness training sessions - Understanding and Supporting Carers

Did You Know? NHS hospital trusts must now involve unpaid carers in discharge planning.

To help meet this duty, the H-Connect Project is offering free online training for NHS professionals and volunteers across Derby & Derbyshire. These one-hour sessions will increase your confidence in recognising, involving, and supporting carers in hospital settings.

  • Understand what a ‘Carer’ is
  • Explore the impact of Caring
  • Identify Carers in hospital settings
  • Involve Carers in discharge planning
  • Know where to signpost for support

Our H-Connect online Carers Awareness training session is free to help professionals working within NHS Derby and Derbyshire hospitals to learn more about carers and how you can support carers.

The session is designed to increase professional’s knowledge about carers, their rights, and to increase understanding about some of the issues carers face. It includes contributions from carers and provides up-to-date information about specialist support services for carers across Derby and Derbyshire. It lasts for one hour and can be accessed via MS Teams. A certificate of attendance will be provided.
