Are you a Healthcare Professional looking to better support and involve Unpaid Carers in hospitals?
Join the Call for Carers: Learning & Development Programme — a FREE series of sessions designed to help NHS staff and volunteers improve how carers are identified, involved, and supported during the hospital discharge process. The programme includes carers awareness training, access to resources and best practice examples to better understand a carers journey.
Open to all healthcare professionals and volunteers working in NHS Derby & Derbyshire hospital
General Carers Awareness Training
Monday 9th June 2pm till 3pm
To raise the awareness of carers and help NHS professionals to learn who carers are, how to identify them, to understand the impact of caring, and the importance of involving carers in the hospital discharge process.
All attendees will receive a certificate.
Carer Contingency Plans for Adult Carers
Wednesday 2nd July 2025 10am till 11am
A session to raise the awareness of the vital importance of contingency planning for carers. NHS Professionals will learn current provisions for emergency planning in Derby and Derbyshire, routes for information sharing with GP Practices (SNOMED Codes) and examples of good practice and digital based approaches.
Caring and Cancer
Wednesday 23rd July 2025 from 2pm till 3pm
Information session exploring the journey and support for those looking after people with cancer. Will support NHS professionals what is available for families across Derby & Derbyshire.
Supporting those looking after people with Dementia
Thursday 14th August 2025 from 10am till 11am
Information session exploring the journey and support for those looking after people with memory loss and a Dementia diagnosis. Will support NHS professionals to learn about what is available in the community to support families.
Carers Services: Support for carers across Derby City & Derbyshire County
Wednesday 17th September 2025 from 2:00pm till 3:00pm
Information session for NHS Professionals to learn what support is available for carers living and caring in Derby & Derbyshire.
Carer Money Matters
Thursday 2nd October 2025 from 10:00am till 11:00am
A session to help you understand more about welfare benefits, grants and support with energy bills for people with disabilities and long-term health conditions and their carers. Learn how patients can access support and know how to refer patients for more help.
Working Carers and their rights in employment
Tuesday 18th November 2025 from 2:00pm till 3:00pm
Information session exploring the impact of working and caring, and the rights of working carers in employment.
Identifying and supporting young carers
Wednesday 3rd December 2025 from 1:00pm till 2:00pm
To raise the awareness of young carers and to help NHS Professionals identify and support young carers in the NHS, including hospitals and GP practices.
Our H-Connect online Carers Awareness training session is free to help professionals working within NHS Derby and Derbyshire hospitals to learn more about carers and how you can support carers.
The session is designed to increase professional’s knowledge about carers, their rights, and to increase understanding about some of the issues carers face. It includes contributions from carers and provides up-to-date information about specialist support services for carers across Derby and Derbyshire. It lasts for one hour and can be accessed via MS Teams. A certificate of attendance will be provided.
