I am new to Derbyshire All Age Carers Support Service
Adult Carers
If you support a family member, partner or friend who needs help because of their illness, frailty, disability, a mental ill health or an addiction then you are a Carer.
Every Carer and their caring journey is unique. Some people can become care givers suddenly whereas others may notice a gradual increase of someone’s dependence on them. Caring can be shared amongst families or there may be one person providing all care needs. Derbyshire All Age Carers Support Service (DAACSS) is here to support you and your family throughout your caring journey. There are other services that can also provide support for you, the person with care needs and your family. In this guide we will list some of the services who may be able to help and support as well as some useful suggestions to help plan for the future.

How you can access support
Once you are registered you can choose how and where you access support. These include but aren’t limited to; a place that suits you, like the comfort of your own home, booking onto one of our Carers Clinic for a face to face session with one of our Carers Support Workers or coming along to one of our Cuppa and Chats to meet other people who are caring. You can also access our full range of services including training, workshops and wellbeing sessions. See below on how you can access support:
Carer Helpline
Knowing that someone is on the other end of the phone is often peace of mind for many Carers and we hope our helpline does just that. Whether you have a quick question, you are finding something difficult or don’t know where to turn, a Carer Support Worker is available Monday – Friday 9am to 5pm (excluding bank holidays) to offer you information, advice and guidance.
Emergency Planning
This service supports carers with an Emergency Plan that is activated when the carer is not able to continue providing care because of an emergency. To find out more information and ways of completing this click here.
Carers Clinics
We know how important community is to carers and because of this we want to ensure that support is available to you in the area you or the person you care for lives. We work closely with a number of GP practices and we are hoping that over time, we will have Carers Clinics in all GP Practices. Carers Clinics are face to face appointments with a Carer Support Worker who will offer you information, advice and guidance. If you would like to find out if you have a Carers Clinic in your GP practice, please call us on 01773 833833.
Carer Support Groups and Cuppa & Chats
These are a great way to meet new people, share experiences, gain advice and information as well as finding out what is available to you as a carer. Our carers often meet each other for the first time at support groups and go onto being lifelong friends. Our support groups and cuppa & chats are facilitated by a Carer Support Worker and/or Volunteers who will be available to make you a cuppa, offer advice and information, as well as arranging speakers to come along for you to learn more about services available in your local community.
